May be an unpopular opinion but I think Bates could’ve stayed another year in college. He’s a pure scorer but he seems lost at times and his defense is atrocious

      July 16, 2023 at 10:38 pm

He’s so young man you can’t hate on his play at all you have to remember he left high school a year early. No rookie comes in and lights it up on defense except Evan The unicorn Mobley. Bates can do just what we need him to do and that’s knock down open jumpers. And he has no pressure on this team.

All you guys are praising Bates and Mobley, rightfully so, but noone is mentioning how impactful Travers is. He had 11 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. The dude is 6’8 with a 6’10 wingspan and can guard positions 1-4. He needs to be on the roster. I feel like he has Andy Varejao energy to him too. Ya’ll are missing the boat on this one

The skill, and accuracy of Bates and Merrill are something to pay attention to, their court IQ is beautiful to watch. One I will say is this, Mobley’s dominance within the paint and versatility, I think we’re looking at a rising star!

      July 17, 2023 at 11:23 am

Totally agree with most your assessment. It’s just that it’s hard for players playing late in summer league games to get burn in the NBA. Especially after all the good players have left. But anytime you get a chance to shine you should take advantage. And Cleveland players did look poised and confident on floor.

I strongly believe that Bates, Merrill, and Mobley have showcased their skills and proven themselves worthy of a spot in the rotation. Credit goes to Coach Mike Gerrity for recognizing their talent and exhibiting his profound basketball expertise. Keep up the fantastic work!

Cleveland Summer League coach deserves a head coaching position. He got those young guys to play together in such a short time. Every Cavs player will come out this summer a much better player. I’ve seen their guys lock in on defense and soak in whatever the coach is saying. They were a cohesive unit and I’m proud and surprised of Emoni. I didn’t think he’d mature that fast.
