Is Luka Doncic arguably the best player in the NBA right now? | The Jump

Published

on

Rachel Nichols, Brian Windhorst and Paul Pierce play “BS or Real Talk,” reacting to Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jeff Teague saying Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is arguably the best player in the NBA right now, and (3:09) Kevin Garnett saying Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant should have chosen the New York Knicks instead of the Brooklyn Nets.

How could the argument not have been, “the Nets without Kyrie and KD are 7-3. Where the Knicks without Kyrie and KD are 4-18. They may have gotten more endorsements, but when Kyrie and KD get healthy the Nets have a legit shot.”

Gianis is the best player right now. For me it’s a toss up between Lebron and Luka as number 2.

Best player means you can pass rebound ans score. Who else does thats not harden for sure all he does is throw the ball up not a passer or rebounder . luka is the best overall

This is waaay too early. A player needs to prove himself in the Finals, let alone the Playoffs before being considered the best. The same thing happens with Giannis too, a player does not deserve to be called the best unless they’ve shown they can lead a team on the highest stage.

Now I think Doncic is the most talented player in the NBA, that includes LeBron too. I know Doncic is still new to the US media; but this guy has been a big deal in Europe for years now. Ever since he was 16, his talent, records and milestones have been on the headlines in European basketball. And unlike LeBron, his hype came from pure basketball skills, rather than atlethicism.

That is not to say Doncic will become greater than LeBron, only time can show that. Right now I think he still needs to prove he is a superstar in this league. You can’t just call a player a superstar after 21 games. Having the talent or showing the potential of something does not mean you’re already there.

Paul Pierce continues to show us that just because you were a player in the NBA that doesn’t mean that you have any knowledge about the NBA or the game of basketball.

Arguably, RIGHT NOW, Luka is playing like the best player in the league. His all around game, RIGHT NOW, is the best in the league. The exact question was “is Luka ARGUABLY the best player in the league RIGHT NOW?” Not last year, the year before or 10 years ago. And not who you’d pick to defend the fucking universe. For people who are supposed to be experts, Paul Pierce and Rachel Nichols look really stupid right now.
