There’s this good take I saw the other day, I just can’t remember which pod was it: Lakers are not a contender until they become a 48-minute defensive team, which they aren’t currently. They can show flashes of defensive brilliance, but only for 3-5 minutes at a time. And in between those times that they suck in defense, they absolutely must outshoot their opponent just to say in the game.
