I’m just here to inform Warriors “haters” (aka people with discernment) that a local show dedicated to the GSW spent the majority of last night’s show running highlights of the SANTA CRUZ Warriors. One of the “analysts” on the show is a color commentator for Santa Cruz Warriors, so he literally switched from discussing GSW to Santa Cruz just to talk about a win. #DubNation refuses to accept the obvious truth that GOD is against them (5-24). 😂😂😂😂😂😂😒😒

Congrats to humbled Carmelo for the victory. Don’t get big-headed about it like the Warriors did. ✌😆

    Proverbs 21:31 TPT
    – You can do your best to prepare for the battle, but ultimate victory comes from the Lord God.

    Romans 8:31 NLT
    – What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

    James 4:4‭-‬10 NLT
    – You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him.

And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

The last spot or two in the West is gonna be decided by who gets injured or who has the last winning streak.

OKC, Portland, Phoenix, Sacramento, even Minnesota & San Antonio are a Windstream away from take the 8th spot for themselves.

This is becoming the Norm for Melo. Great play on both sides of the ball. People in this day and age that are hung up on analytics will think “Oh, he missed 10 shots”.

If you look at his shot chart, three of those misses were in the paint off of his misses, as the referee as always swallowed the whistle. He is still quick on the second jump. Three of his other misses came as the shot clock was expiring…. this occurred because the Guards continue to pound the ball in isolation and when they don’t get favorable looks, they kick it out to the perimeter in desperation.

Look, this game shouldn’t have been as close as it was. They increased the lead on two separate occasions to double digits, but what has plagued them is odd substitution patterns, poor clock management and POOR SHOT SELECTION which is a regular occurrence in Portland.

I don’t buy the idea that guys are ordained as leaders by the statistics they put up. Leadership is by example on the floor, getting teammates consistently involved, even selflessly looking for others when their own offense isn’t in rhythm, playing effectively with effort on the defensive side of the ball.

Melo, though he is fresh, has been their best leader and he hasn’t even spent but 13 games or so on this roster. He’s playing hard on defense, he’s communicating, he’s moving without the ball on offense and setting good screens in EVERY SINGLE GAME he’s suited up. There have been spells, which has continued to become a terrible theme, where he doesn’t touch the ball at all for 5+ minutes, but it hasn’t deterred him, as it would most great players from enforcing his imprint on the game in some way.

Dame had 13 assists, but 60% of those assists were because he had to pass and also they came from the roller. They aren’t the kinds of assist that come from setting up a teammate outside of the pick n roll. There aren’t many designed plays to get other guys involved, everything predicated off of isolation or pick n roll, which in essence is a flex to create opportunities for Dame and CJ to create for themselves as the FIRST OPTION.

Isolation ball, poor shot selection and lack of consistent, cohesive team defense and offensive execution will be their demise if they don’t fix it.

I believe in my heart, this is solely my opinion, that the reason Melo came to Portland the past few years is because he couldn’t see how he could be integrated into an offense where TWO Guards dominate the ball as much as they do. If I was in my prime or toward the end of it, I wouldn’t go to Portland either. Melo survived in OKC because Russ was a willing passer. Paul George was a willing passer at times, but he’s averaging roughly what he did in OKC and he’s more efficient on both sides of the ball now. With that logic, he should be flourishing a lot more offensively in Portland, but he’s not getting the opportunities and it is baffling. If you look at the film, Tim Legler and any other unbiased analyst would agree that there are offensive possessions that were left unexplored on the floor, which involve Carmelo.

Melo, as I’ve continued to lament, will be as good for Portland as they’ll allow him to be. HOWEVER, what he is doing is:

    1) Putting great play on both sides of the ball on tape, which will allow him to prolong his career.

    2) He’s auditioning for a role on a contender if it doesn’t work in Portland.

He just needs to continue coming to work every day, play hard on both sides as he’s been doing and continue being a good soldier. Executives and players around the league are taking notice and saying to themselves, “He’s producing on offense without even being featured as much and he’s doing this well? Playing hard on defense?”

This entire situation is one grand audition and so far he’s nailing the part.
