they did luka a favor sending him to LA. because it’s a major market and can actually build a weirdo team around his style of play. And it wasn’t like the guy was making off season efforts or expanding his defensive game. They could have done a better job getting more for him though.

He had one semi bad injury season after the best season of his life and arguably one of the best post seasons we’ve seen in the league in the 2010s. I don’t think you can justify the trade no matter how much cope is involved 😅

@itmeohyesitbe Luka had bad injury after bad injury because he never took the offseason or the game seriously early on. You simply cannot play on hardwood unless you are in elite shape. The NBA season is too long, and the court surface is unforgiving.
Tons of people get injured and come back even better, or at least in some level of shape. Once you get caught in an injury cycle, the structural damage is baked into the cake. Even if you get into great shape later, you have already opened your body up to reinjury in those exact same locations. Had he taken his conditioning seriously from the start, he would be in a much better spot right now.
Look at other generational talents. When they get hurt, they use that time to come back with something new. Steph Curry did it, and almost all true generational talents do. The ones who do not face loud, public scrutiny, like Zion Williamson. Even the Ball brothers came back with a wider bag after being injured. I feel especially sorry for the older one, Lonzo. He just had a lot of unlucky breaks. He had incredible court vision and great defense. He could have been a low-level star and an amazing piece for a championship team, but he kept coming back too quickly when he was hurt.
Maybe you did not read my original point properly, or maybe it got lost because I was typing on a phone. I never said this trade was good for Dallas. I said Dallas did him a favor. He is now in one of the best spots to attract teammates who can play off his style and hit cold shots. That type of talent is normally only attracted to major markets, so the move puts him in a great position.
