No one but Stephen A cares that Lebron wasn’t in the dunk contest. The dunk contest has nothing to do with winning basketball games. Get over it…

    • @eyeamfranchyze

      January 21, 2025 at 8:36 pm

It’s not about winning basketball games, it’s about putting on a show for the millions of fans that tune in to watch their favorite players play. All-Star weekend (mainly the Slam Dunk contest) is what everybody really tune in to watch because they wanna see something extraordinary happen. This the time where the players can unwind and have some fun but also be competitive.

    • @thomascrowniii1693

      January 21, 2025 at 8:54 pm

@eyeamfranchyzeΒ  You’re contradicting yourself. If it’s about watching your favorite players play, then you’re not talking about the dunk contest because there is no playing going on. There’s sitting and there’s dunking — that’s all the participants in the dunk contest do. And if All Star weekend is a time for the PLAYERS to unwind and have some fun, then Lebron shouldn’t be expected to do something he clearly has no interest in doing because no one has fun doing things they don’t want to do.

Bro literally explained what it means and if you want to fixate on winning then he still wasn’t that special in that area too. The reality of the situation is LeBron is the first star to not leave the game in better shape than he got it.

    • @thomascrowniii1693

      January 21, 2025 at 9:38 pm

@JoshCConnorΒ No he didn’t. He explained that the weekend is about playing and there’s no playing going on in the dunk contest. And the reality of the situation is that Lebron left the players in a better position than they were ever in – more money, more job security, more power.

@@caldwell2253 No. But who’s tradition are we supposed to carry? Who said he had to carry this so-called tradition? It’s also tradition to retire before 20 years are up. But he’s clearly broken that. He can do whatever he wants. It’s HIS career.

    • @caldwell2253

      January 25, 2025 at 8:13 pm

@Egun_esinΒ  i agree. However I disagree with the analogy for retirement 😁🀣. The only traditions that come with retirement is, award ceremonies, going away tours, jersey retirements etc. There is no “traditional age” that players retire at.

And i was only answering your question when you asked why? That was the premise of Stephen a’s point. Though I understand the points he made and can agree in some respects, im of the notion like you, at the end of the day, it’s up to the players to define or carve out their own path. That includes traditions, games played, contacts signed, teams played for, events participated in etc.
