i don’t understand what’s going on with the spurs. the spurs have 4 really good defenders in dejounte, derrick, keldon and jakob. and demar is playing the best defense of his career this year in my opinion. so why are the spurs such a poor defensive team? smh. one of the things that is killing the spurs and has been killing them for the past 2 years is the lack of transition game. they had 0 transition buckets in this game. ZE-RO! obviously this has a lot to do with the lack of defense being played. honestly, with the starting five that the spurs have they should be able to switch on all picks and screens without much break down. this will leave jakob on a guard here and there, but jakob has proven to be pretty good in recovery and blocking shots from behind and weak side. there is no reason why this team should be giving up 120 points a night. i’ll keep saying it, i think derrick should come off the bench and stabilize the second unit. devin is great on D, but he needs help. the second unit should be derrick, patty, devin, rudy and eubanks/samanic. i think this would improve the overall performance of the team dramatically. adding lonnie to the starting lineup would up the the transition game a couple of notches. lonnie is not the defender that derrick is, but with dejounte, lonnie and keldon on the wings—the overall speed and athleticism of the team goes up a bit. nobody would be able to stop those three in transition…nobody. i have to admit, for this to work lonnie has to stay involved and engaged on both ends. the spurs pretty much have all the pieces to be a legit team in the west. why they continue to lose to bottom level teams and give up a boat load of points every game makes no sense.
