Was disappointed to see he went undrafted but, I hope he really puts on a clinic and gets a real shot. Idc what team, but I know he has that bounce and ability, looks like a winning hustle mentality

Really good guy. Worked on his game and got much better. I hope he makes it. This actually reminds of when I first saw Rajan Rondo in a Summer League game for the Celtics. He was hustling just like this and making clutch plays. Eventually he got on the main squad and we know how that turned out. Not saying that this is McClung, but he has that sort of potential.

      August 9, 2021 at 11:22 am

Except Rondo can’t shoot to save his life. This kid has way more offensive game and most importantly has self awareness. Rondo is a complete idiot who doesn’t get it.

    • Darth Balsamic

      August 9, 2021 at 11:54 am

@R R Firstly, Rondo indeed cannot shoot. But he can make them though, so it’s not like he can just be left open. Second, Rondo actually does have court awareness. If you don’t think so then you clearly haven’t watched more basketball than I have. That’s literally why Rondo was an important piece to the championship winning Celtics. You cannot dismiss any of that because he’s at the latter end of his career. The dude still has a ring and was an integral member for the Celtics for years. Let’s not act like the Celtics were worth anything when it was just Paul Pierce. I remember those seasons well prior to their improvement after the Rondo draft class and trades.
Third, McClung is a rookie. He has accomplished nothing yet, so we have nothing to go off that has you giving him more prestige over a veteran in Rondo who earned it, whether you like him or not. Even the self awareness is not proven yet with McClung because he hasn’t been in the trenches yet, unlike Rondo who proved what he showed in the aforementioned summer league when he first came onto the scene. This is not a slight on McClung as you seem to insinuate here, he just hasn’t earned anything yet. That’s just a fact.
Fourth, once more, I like McClung. Like many basketball heads, I followed him throughout his high school and college career. I followed both Kemba Walker and Kyrie Irving way back in the day when they were in high school, along with guys like Carmelo. Even further back to Marbury. Stop acting like I’m insulting McClung by stating who he reminds me of. That’s just my observation.
Fifth, and I’ll end with your premise from the top, most rookies cannot shoot in the NBA. Quite frankly, I actually don’t think there are many good shooters in the league anyway, despite it being a shooting dominant league now. McClung is not out here banking threes ad infinitum. I don’t even expect him to for two years at least, and when/if he does, he better shoot at a high percentage because he’s a smaller guard. You mention Rondo like he is the only (former) All Star, who likely will be a Hall of Famer someday whether you like him or not, who can’t shoot at a high percentage. I could start with Lebron who was trash at shooting for years, and still doesn’t actually shoot that high of a percentage, to Westbrook who lays bricks daily as a guard to the point where he can build ten houses. Yet both are well celebrated for different reasons and opinions. McClung is not better than any of these people at this point, including Rondo, because he hasn’t earned it yet. Can he? Sure, but he has alot of to work to do. So before you come in hot, relax, and be objective. McClung doesn’t need you elevating him beyond where he is at the moment. Give him time to develop. This isn’t hard.

@Darth Balsamic I’m not gonna read all that. Rondo is an idiot. He went up to a children’s hospital and proceeded to get ultra competitive playing games against sick/dying kids. All he did was upset the kids. Idiot plain and simple.

    • Darth Balsamic

      August 9, 2021 at 12:12 pm

@R R Read it fool, because it’s about basketball. You know, the sport you don’t watch. What are you, Rondo’s baby mama or something? Why are you this mad clown?! Go change your panties or something, and take some period medicine. If you want to talk basketball, then we could talk, if not, then shut up and get off the keyboard. We’re not having a conversation if it isn’t within the confines of basketball, not whatever social media drama you choose to pay attention to like the child you are. Muted.

He plays hard, all the time. He’s got some work to do, but here’s hoping he’s sent to the G-League so he doesn’t sit on the end of the bench, so he can get some experience. One thing we know: He will put in the work.
