The professional street dunkers are actually killing the dunk contest. We see the most incredible dunks on social media daily, nba guys are players first, not professional dunkers.

NBA playes need to be in the NBA dunk contest. I respect pro dunkers or street dunkers alot but if there not in the league they shouldn’t be involved. Only way to fix NBA dunk contest is to make prize money worth it. Millions not thousands.

As a judge Its wrong you only have 5 points to evaluate (6 to 10) It should be (at least) a real 1 to 10. Or better a 0 to 50

Some people are commenting that Wilkins dunks were boring…maybe by todays standards the types of dunks maybe…but that means you don’t acknowledge one of the most important part of dunking: the power. No one dunks with his intensity anymore, and it shows people don’t watch his highlights with right mindset.

If the NBA wants star power in the dunk contest, adding street dunkers is the exact opposite way to go about it. NBA players are already to concerned with their image, brand, and possibly embarrassing themselves by competing in the dunk contest, adding street dunkers isn’t going to attract any star players considering the NBA players know they would absolutely lose to people that most of the audience have never heard of and aren’t even in the league. The only way to possibly attract star players at that point would to be to make it some kind of team event with one NBA player and one street dunker on a team but I don’t think many people are really interested in a team dunk contest as opposed to every man for themselves.
Once you start adding street dunkers to the NBA dunk contest you might as well just make it street dunkers only and then you run into the problem that it’s no longer an “NBA” dunk contest. I’m not saying I got the answer to fix the dunk contest, but I don’t think adding street dunkers is it. Personally I don’t even think that the dunk contest needs it’s biggest stars to be solid, they just need dunkers who are good, creative, and don’t miss a billion times. Until you get that, the only way to make the dunk contest easier to sit through is to put Barkley on commentary. At least they’ll be some good laughs throughout.

Do a Tournament of Champions every 3 years. Consist of 3 tiers:
Tier 1: 3 winners of previous dunk contest
Tier 2: 2 more players who have got a minimum of 50 scores in previous three dunk-contests
Tier 3: 1 player who has the potential to be a champion and score perfect 50 caliber dunks.
If there were repeat champions, add an extra from the 2nd tier. If there isn’t 2 from tier 2, add one more from 3rd tier. Increase Price x3 🤷♂️

NBA players are already ducking the dunk contest, adding streetballers is going to shrink the NBA volunteering pool even more. Also we’re in the 3-point era, dunks were going to be on the decline regardless.

Dunk Contest:
4 Players, Round Robin of 3 rounds 3 minutes each. Half Court. Any non-dunk attempt is a turnover.
Awards:
– Top Dunk
– Top Block
– Rim King – with appropriate crown looking like an upside down hoop for the top overall performance.
