Pretty simple, one team was well rested playing at home. The other was coming off an emotional 7 game win and looked slow and tired. This was as inevitable as sunrise in the east. Not rocket science

That plus Dobes is weaker vs high shots and traffic in the paint and that’s one of the things the Sabres do well.

Just imagine if Tage finally gets rolling. Yes he has some points but he will start scoring and when he does it’s lights out. Also imagine if we had Kulich. And Carrick will be playing and his ability to win draws is going to be huge.

Montreal’s Cole Caufield can now be considered “missing in action” for the play-offs. His ice time should be cut. Consider the following. In the 2024-25 play-offs against the Capitals he had no points. In 8 play-off games this year he again has no points. That is 13 pointless games for him. Montreal simply can’t win with him munching minutes on the top line. It is time MSL put Kirby Dach on the top line and relegate Caufield to power play duty. At least with Dach and Slov, on the top line they have two big players that can screen the goaltender and scramble for pucks. I like Caufield and he is entertaining but his performance in the play-offs is now a trend not a fluke.

So if there was ever a question as to whether or not Cole Caufield’s game would translate to NHL playoff competition; I believe it has been answered. He truly looks and competes as a boy among men. He could score 1,00,000 goals a season but when you become irrelevant in the playoffs, you ain’t worth a penny…
