It’s hard to believe that Carmello was almost out of the league for good. Even at 35 he’s still better than over half the players at his position.

The Lakers were dumb not to sign him. Come playoffs he would help actor 4 team win the chip.

S T just like whiteside the trailblazers gave melo a chance. I’m a heat fan and he was my favorite player 😔 it’s good that he’s playing at this level.

And with him starting the Blazers are a below .500 team, whereas last year they were a playoff team that went to the conference finals.  Yeah, he can still score some points but you need lockdown defense and key rebounds along with those points and at 35 he just doesn’t do those things like he used to.  Not that he was ever a “lockdown” defender but at least when he was younger he had that extra zip with springier legs.

@GerMart that is not the reason why they aren’t in the playoff picture the reason is they let all those players go like Aminu and seth curry nurkic can’t also stay healthy instead of opinion get your facts right

It doesn’t help when there’s 8 teams worse to make their lottery odds worse. This is exactly the nightmare situation a GM doesn’t want: an aging point guard coming off an Achilles tear making 42 million on average, with Beal’s contract and Davis Bertans who will demand a hefty salary. What do you have left in cap? You’re not good, but you’re not trash enough to finish behind a team like the Knicks because you have Beal. The only way to get better is with Rui, but it’s clear that they’re so bad that even with an okay Wall (if healthy) and an improved Rui playing at a fringe all-star level might only get you to 41 wins. That’s NBA purgatory. Best thing the Wizards can do is sell high this offseason since Beal is locked up for another two years and get some draft picks, create some cap space, and develop guys. For example, Boston would probably give up 3 picks and trade Hayward with your choice of young players if it means getting Beal to pair with Jaylen, Jayson, and Kemba. That 4 man combination is as deadly as we would ever see, even more deadly than Golden State since Draymond was a black hole on offense because he’s so bad at shooting, so it was effectively an offensive trio.

Why does Melo trigger his head after 3s. It bothers me. Maybe its just me. Lets get a different look maybe?
