There’s a few voices in the entirety of sports media where when they say something, you know it’s coming from the right place and you know it’s coming from truth. Sekou was one of them. Rest in paradise.

Whenever I used to read NBA.com articles as a kid, I never cared one bit about who the actual author was – I was just young and naive like that. But I remember the few times I would genuinely think, “this article is really well-written and taught me a lot,” it was always by Sekou Smith, so his name was one of the only ones in basketball media that I had memorized as I grew up. Feels like I lost a bit of my childhood now, but RIP Mr. Smith, and thank you for providing me with some awesome insight and memories.

You said it really well man. I remember being a Denver fan back when they had Melo, JR and Billups. He always used to give useful insight about George Karl and how the nuggets could go from a middle of the pack squad to title contenders. He always made great points and never got caught up with the negative narratives surrounding that squad. He will be missed no doubt.

Same man. Heard him first in NBA.com and loved the articles he wrote. Also felt like a part of my teenage years left with him.

his point is that he was unassuming and not there to one up them. He was humble and there to do his job and not concerned with fanfare of Inside the NBA and thats a very accurate description of the man. Sekou was a great man and example of a man.
