I usually agree with Chuck, but he is wrong on this one. Detroit, Dallas, San Antonio, Toronto, all had teams which bench players really delivered it home. The great Spurs run was a championship run because of guys like Diaw, Splitter, Patty Mills and Danny Green along with Coach Pop’s insane pass-heavy offense and the growing star power of Kawhi and the knowledge, wisdom, and championship experience of The Big Three.

Aside from the Mavs and the Pistons… the team with the best 2 or 3 healthy players have won the championship.

Chuck need to stay out of championship arguments. As great as Steph is, they don’t beat LeBron the 1st time without Andre Iguodala. As great as LeBron is, he needed an old Ray Allen to beat the Spurs. Kenny & Shaq were right. Stars generally cancel each other out. Unless there’s a big talent discrepancy the role players make the difference.

by chucks definition of great player in the last 10 years most chips were won with 1 “great” player, 2019, 2016, 2015, 2014 2011, 2010 all had only 1 top 10 player on the winning team

you need superstars to win championships but when you get deep into the playoffs the only teams left are the ones that have superstars. So the deciding factor in the end are the “others”. Only once or twice in a decade does a team win with zero or one superstar. Most teams win with 2 minimum

The Lakers vs the Pistons? GP was old, Karl Malone was in his last year, Shaq’s playoff production had declined steadily after the 3peat.
Lakers had 2 starters average double figures.
Pistons had EVERY STARTER average double figures!
The better TEAM won that series.

This conversation really puts into perspective how truly great the 04 Pistons were doesn’t it.

I love Chuck , he makes good and valid points. I understand and agree with his thought process but he is bad at articulating his point within the small time frame given.

This kind of debates will never end.
Charles has “others” but he didn’t win against the Bulls.
Jordan has “other” but lost against the Magic in the first round of the playoffs.
GS lost to both Raptors and Cavs.
Kings lost to the Lakers because of the questionable calls by the Refs.
Lakers lost Jabbar to injury but still won because of Magic Johnson.
There’s so many more, and not one case is exactly the same. So many factors could affect a championship team.

Chuck literally was the best role player with the Sixers, the best player/league MVP with the SUNS who made it to the finals against the 91′ bulls with Chuck as the best player IN THE NBA , and then he turnt to a role player with the Rockets. CHUCK IS RIGHT ON THIS ONE !!!!

Chuck’s right. In the NBA it’s proven that star power leads to championships. Role players do step up and many times have hit the clutch shots. But without that elite star power, the team would not be in that position to win a chip

Both have a point. The others helped Shaq win championships. Charles faced MJ, where it didn’t matter as much who the others were

    May 6, 2021 at 11:28 pm

Lol these guys are saying the same thing, almost.
I will say this…the quality of the teammates a superstar has is usually the difference when it comes to winning a chip.

How can these guys even argue against chuck. Two all stars on the same team doesn’t even guarantee an NBA finals appearance. GSW needed KD, Steph, Klay and Draymond to win….Brooklyn will need 2 MVPs plus one of the greatest Pg’s in the game to come out of the East. Teams need not just 2 stars to win but 2 HALL OF FAMERS to win. Toronto and Dallas are the only outliers over the past 20 years.

peace; I think Charles right with the “Others”. Shaq know he didn’t have just role players in Foxx and “others” but stars on there official team before being a Laker.

Chuck is right in pointing out that every player in the NBA can ball. What separates the championship teams to the great teams is that championship caliber teams tend to have more “great players” rather than “other players”. I believe that players in the association have different levels from superstars to allstars, great players and the others who can just ball. I believe kenny smith, paxson, horry are “great players” than just others in the NBA who can ball. In chuck’s view on chris bosh in toronto, he is an all star/superstar in that team with a few great players and much of the other players like also lebron in 2007 cavs. When he went to miami, he became a great player due to the load given to lebron as the superstar and dwade as the all star.
