@jramostt86 He still needs to put some meat on those bones. Is he even lifting?? They’ll probably give him some run and then limit his minutes towards the end.

Dude is just 20 and it is quite a norm 2nd year players who really didn’t get much playing time in their rookie season to play in summer leagues. I think Dejounte Murray played for 3 summer leagues.

    • David Larue

      August 5, 2021 at 1:00 am

@J Chen you right actually then idek where he is but he is cleared cause he wouldnt have been able to be selected in the draft

    • J Chen

      August 5, 2021 at 1:06 am

@David Larue no he is cleared that’s why he was drafted but I read from somewhere “other injury’s” is why he isn’t playing in salt lake summer league

    • David Larue

      August 5, 2021 at 1:08 am

@J Chen oh shit well then thats tough I didnt even know he got injured

    • Taylor Richins

      August 5, 2021 at 1:15 am

Jared Butler had a preexisting heart condition that kept him from going to the draft combine because he had to get cleared to play by a panel. He was cleared to play but still fell in the draft. He was picked at #40 with a pick that NOP traded to Memphis, who trades it to the Jazz. The thing is, the Pelicans/Grizzlies trade (this is the one that also included Steven Adams and JV) isn’t official until August 6th I think, so technically the Pelicans drafted Jared Butler and technically he plays for their team right now, so he can’t play for the Jazz Summer league. After Aug 6 he will officially be a player for the Jazz.

Sorry it’s wordy lol it’s a weird situation but it means we got Butler at 40 so I’m happy.

it’s funny that they mention that developing players in the name of the game in today’s nba. that’s exactly what seems to be the spurs problem. they know how to develop young players, but they don’t know how to elevate them.

    • Chim Sorreda

      August 4, 2021 at 10:53 pm

Wtf u talking?u forgot Duncan,Manu,Parker and Kawhi are all drafted by the Spurs..u just said that coz what happened on kawhi right? any individual achievement he got since he left San Antonio?

    • Shawn Garner

      August 4, 2021 at 10:54 pm

You’re joking right??? Dejounte Murray, Lonnie walker, keldon Johnson, vessel, primo and a bunch of fundamental projects and Zach Collins who’s has potential but hasn’t played y a game in 2 years. I think pop knows exactly what he’s doing 😭💀

    • Chin Chukwu

      August 5, 2021 at 12:20 am

@Chim Sorreda first of all—tony, manu and tim were all thrown into the fire early. same with kawhi. they were all special players. right now, the spurs have at least 4 players who should be further along in their development than what we’re seeing. lonnie walker is on the top of that list. lonnie walker in going into his 3rd or 4th year and can barely crack the starting 5. why did the spurs sign zach collins when they have luka samanic who has been busting his azz for two years in the program AND is more talented? so luka is going to sit on the bench and watch guys like doug mcdermott and zack collins get minutes in the rotation? that’s what the spurs have been doing since tim duncan retired. so tell me—has it helped?

    • simmy213

      August 5, 2021 at 12:29 am

@Chin Chukwu Well…DJ destroyed his ACL. I think you are forgetting that. I think Pop has favored the vets a little too much but it’s not easy going from contending to rebuilding the roster. The 2019-2020 season doesn’t really count…since they were off for 4 months before resuming in Orlando. Last year was tough on everyone…especially the Spurs. They were just getting momentum going and then they were shut down for weeks and some players it took about a month to be cleared. Kawhi threw a wrench in the whole thing. Oh well…that’s what happens when you let your mom and uncle be your agent. Kawhi got fortunate in Toronto. I’ve held on to his Spurs jersey because I think when looking back at his career when it is all said and done everyone will say his years with the Spurs were his best.

    • Chin Chukwu

      August 5, 2021 at 12:34 am

@dlayne25ify what pop did with kawhi is the exact opposite of what he’s doing with the talent he has now. pop put kawhi on the floor and allowed him to play his game. he had confidence in him and that’s why kawhi developed into the player he did. if pop would do that with the young talent he has now the spurs would be a totally different team. the fact is the talent is there and the players are ready—-but pop has to believe that. for what ever reason, he has been slow to elevate these young guys to the forefront of the team. what you’re seeing now (struggling to make the playoffs, young talent rotting on the bench etc. etc.) is the result of that.

    • Chin Chukwu

      August 5, 2021 at 12:46 am

@simmy213 i agree. but that’s the mistake i think pop and spurs made. the shorten season was the perfect time to really play the young guys on the team. i think the kawhi situation really took a toll on pop. remember before that season the spurs were favored by many to win the west. and i think pop knew he had a chance at winning another title. but when kawhi left i think pop took it somewhat personal. even since then it seems like pop has pulled back on really trusting his young players. it’s unfortunate because i really believe that from top to bottom—this is the most talented team pop has had since he’s been in san antonio.

    • Frosty M3nder

      August 5, 2021 at 5:15 am

@Jason Chen literally ONLY up right? like 18 and is very decent . he could grow like ben simmons did and become a sf instead or he could develop kyrie/curry handles and hes a good shooter so that could improve too ( im thinkn only upside rn so if literally none of that happens O well i hope he does well)

    • Jason Chen

      August 5, 2021 at 5:36 am

@Frosty M3nder he seems very young could grow up 2 inches become SF.

@LooperPooper 2 it was sometime after he was drafted like in 2017/18 i just remember everyone “freaking out” cuz he grew “nearly 2 inches” slam had something on it and some journaist said something about it
