Fresh off winning his first Kia NBA MVP award, Gilgeous-Alexander carries himself in a manner where he lets the basketball do the talking.

“Mentality, I tell myself every night I’m the best player on the floor. I want everyone in the arena to know that and feel that … you have to find a balance between respect and not being scared,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.

“Pass The Rock” covers the best around the league’s basketball upbringing, and for Gilgeous-Alexander, that wasn’t always easy. After getting cut from his ninth-grade basketball team, Gilgeous-Alexander used that as fuel to motivate him to become one of the league’s best.

“I wasn’t as good at basketball as I thought I was. I knew I wanted to get to a high level and was going to do whatever it took,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.

He also reflects on his rookie season and the offseason trade that took him from the LA Clippers to the Thunder, and embracing Oklahoma City every step of the way.

“It’s one of the better things to happen in my career, I have so much fun playing basketball in this organization. It’s a group full of brothers and it makes things easier on the court,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.

Watch to Game 1 of the NBA Finals on June 5th at 8:30 p.m. ET, presented by YouTube TV.

What I don’t understand is complaining about free throws it part of the game. He gets defenders out of positions with his shift move and creates contact with footwork. Just like Kobe and Jordan did, if the defenders moved their feet, then they wouldn’t be out of position so much. It’s the old say if you reach, then Shai would teach. What yall talking about is a defender getting in foul trouble, so they are afraid to guard him physically, which they can’t. All yall said he will not get these calls when the playoffs came and proved most of wrong.

SGAs game is so tough. One of the best handles in the league and the best mid range in the league aside from maybe KD, but that’s a different story cuz KD is KD😂But fr he is like a mix of Kobe and James Harden

Agree 💯he’s like AI 3.0 , with height , size , good speed , efficient in the mid range , great at the FT line , very good 3 point shooter , & plays both ends of the ball & a very great team leader & player , what more can you ask for & also no fear

As a Kentucky fan I remember him playing there. He didn’t start the first part of the year, but he kept getting better and took the starting job. So it’s no surprise he’s continuing to get better.
Not to compare but MJ didn’t make his Varsity team either first time out. Some guys just have that killer winning instinct, MJ, Kobe, LaBronn, Bird just to name a few.
Im willing to bet that this won’t be his only MVP or Championship. Hall of Fame career ahead for this young man.

Man!! from being cut from the team to MVP. How?? I knew guys in my highschool that we all thought they would make it and didn’t even get to NCAA. If you’re a kid reading this and want to play basketball, you HAVE TO WANT IT BAD!! Like he said, you either go out and work your ass off and through your whole soul into this or go find something else to do. DO NOT half ass it.
