It was a good break down but if he makes it its great base running , I think they’re making to much of the play, It took a perfectly executed play by the whole infield especially muncy with the throw and Mookie to apply that tag on the Run

That’s exactly why they are making so much of the play because it was perfectly executed. A wheel play is practiced by every high school team; it’s not a complicated or revolutionary play. The fact that an MLB infield executed it well against a slow baserunner and got him out isn’t surprising. It is executing the fundamentals well that makes MLB players who they are. Just like laying down a bunt is a fundamental skill that is expected from an MLB player, bunt defense is a fundamental skill that is expected at this level of competition. The fact that a playoff caliber team executed a fundamental play well isn’t a surprise, but rather it is expected at this level of play.

Love the Breakdown.,,, but Can’t say “No one is at 2nd base” in this wheel play because Freeman went to 2nd and Tommy covered 1st. So someone was at 2nd base.

He said the purpose of the wheel play is to not cover 2nd base. Both Muncy and Freeman run in to cover the bunt, Mookie covers 3rd and Edman covers 1st. So no one covers 2nd base. That’s the wheel play. What ur referring to with Freeman running toward 2nd after the bunt went Muncy’s way is a post-wheel play base coverage adjustment, it’s not the wheel play itself.

Why are you teaching High school base running fundamentals to the Phillies? I think if Castellanos had a pair of finger glasses like the ones JT Realmuto wore after hitting his two run Triple. Castellanos would have clearly seen there was nobody on third base.
