     If there was a way I could get this idea to the commissioner for review it would make my holiday.

     My idea again is to restructure the points system and turn stats into points on the board.

     OFFENSE:

     -The 3-point line becomes the half-point line. Teams are awarded 2-1/2 points for perimeter shots. Mid-range shots remain 2 points.

     -Baskets in the paint area are now awarded 3 points.

     -Assists earn an extra 1/2 point. So an assist in the paint scores 3-1/2 points, a double assist scores 4 points. Swing passes do not count.

     DEFENSE:

     -A shot block awards 2 points. Blocks behond the perimeter earn 3 points.

     -A steal awards 1 point. So a steal resulting in a breakaway dunk is 4 points. A steal to an assist is a 4-1/2 point play.

     FOULS:

     Free throws are reduced to 1 with the exception of flagrants.

     So as you can see, this simple modification wouldn’t change anything fundamental to the sport. Wrather, it would reward those teams that play physical, attack the basket, make the extra pass, make deliberate plays on defense, and ultimately discourage laziness and settling for easy buckets.
