Nikola Jokić & Victor Wembanyama BATTLED IT OUT In Two Classic Duels!
On Friday, Nikola Jokić notched 41 points, 18 rebounds and nine assists against the Spurs. But Victor Wembanyama stole the show — and the game — with 35 points, 18 boards and a clutch stop on Jokić to seal the win. 24 hours later, in another classic duel between the two superstars, it was the…

Stephen A. Smith’s IN AWE of Karl-Anthony Towns’ 44-PT Knicks performance! | First Take
@tompratt7125
January 5, 2025 at 3:06 pm
Jokic averaged 43.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists in the 2 games v the guy a lot of people–including myself–think will be the DPOY. It seems impossible that Jokic could continue to get better and better but he does. He’s playing at a ridiculous level this year. Wemby has made big strides since last year. Jokic is still in his 20’s so this could be the new rivalry to replace the Jokic/Embiid face off. Unlike Embiid Wemby is actually available to play every time. Bring it on!

Watch the full games. Wemby wasn’t on jokic all the time lol both teams swapped a ridiculous amount and Zach Collins is a straight liability on defense

When guarded by Wemby, Jokic scored 39 points on 15/27 FG, 5/10 3PT, and 4 FTs made, along with 8 assists and 2 TOs. When guarded by Jokic, Wemby scored 9 points on 3/12 FG, 2/9 3PT, and 1 FT made, along with 2 assists and 1 TO.

@@OhhWeallyeverybody knows a player can’t be on another player for every shot they take. Over the two games Jokic was 15/27 when guarded by Wemby. Wemby was 3/12 guarded by Jokic. Wemby will be the best and he’s incredible but Jokic gave him work.

What we’ve learned from these two games is that Wemby is already getting that superstar whistle. Should have fouled out early in the 4th in 1st game, but they let him play. 2nd game last possession, he fouls Jokic for free throws for the win, but nah. They literately gave Brown flagrant for identical defensive play in the same game. Not to mention few Wemby’s goal-tending plays in both games. So funny to watch, they wonder why ratings are ass.

It’s really about timing and angles against Wemby man… You miscalculate and bam, swatted.
@tylermcmichael8515
January 5, 2025 at 5:29 pm
Wemby was great the first game but got scouted hard for the second game. It was obvious that more pressure in the paint causes him to hang around the perimeter and choose bad shots. To be honest, watching him jack 2-12 from three land in an OT loss was disappointing. I mean he didn’t score a SINGLE point in OT, and had only 3 points in the whole 4th. With less than 4 assists and 4 TO, he’s already showing his limitations and how easy they are to exploit.
@SuperYoungjb
January 5, 2025 at 6:11 pm
The nuggets told him he’s not going to be beat them. They wanted Vassell and CP to beat them.
Mike Malone pulled off playoff style adjustments by making Jokic, Peyton Watson and Westbrook shade over to him no matter who they were guarding. Malone put Jokic on Chris Paul and Jokic shaded to whatever side of the court Wemby was on every time down. Nuggets didn’t bother guarding CP3 and Sochan with how much they sagged off them. Wemby just took what defense gave him because he already has to exert so much energy being the Spurs defense and being left on an island most times against Jokic. He didn’t have the legs from playing in altitude the night before.
But if a coach has to devise up playoff style adjustments on a player who just turned 21 and is far from a finished product says a lot about coach and teams than the player. Yea he has his limitations as of right now look at KD his first 3 seasons. Tony Allen/Kobe/etc gave him fits inside the paint. But coaches having to pull out defensive adjustments they solely use in the playoffs during the regular season should concern every single human around the league.
@tylermcmichael8515
January 5, 2025 at 7:53 pm
@@SuperYoungjb That’s a pretty big cope. By that same logic, why didn’t the Spurs make adjustments for Jokic? Because it wasn’t the playoffs? C’mon. The point I make is that Wemby’s game is easy to stop at this point. I was shocked at how hard it was for him to be in the paint with some extra pressure. I was even more shocked at how ineffective he was when a team didn’t want him to be effective. This never has been, or will be, the case with Jokic.
@SuperYoungjb
January 6, 2025 at 1:29 am
@@tylermcmichael8515 There are no adjustments for Jokic. The only adjustments that could work on him are to prevent him from getting on the glass and keep his assists low. Did you not remember how much Jokic struggled in the paint against AD and Dwight Howard/Marc Gasol. Mike Malone literally said hes going to make defensive adjustments solely on Wemby. Why else would Mike put 3 guys on Wemby while sagging off CP3 and Sochan? There’s a reason Mike Malone played Peyton Watson more and benched Christian Braun? The only adjustment you can make against Jokic is guarding MPJ. I thought Mitch Johnson should have put Barnes on Jokic and Wemby on Peyton Watson but that matchup never came to fruition because AG is not in the game so having Wemby as a backline spy would also help conserve his legs on offense.
What adjustments would you have written up against a sagged-off Jokic showing front-side help, Peyton Watson on-ball, and Russell or MPJ drifting over as a backline spy? Mind you Mike Malone wants the spurs “others” to beat them because they dont respect their abilities as players?
@lawrencegardener8616
January 5, 2025 at 5:38 pm
First of all, Jokic is the best player in NBA. With that said, what these games show me more is that Wemby is even more special at 20 yrs old. Split two close games with Wemby lacking a supporting cast. Denver has seasoned champions on that team. Records about the same. Joker the best right now but no where near Wemby level when he was 20.
@zivkovicable
January 5, 2025 at 7:21 pm
Where did you see Jokić play when he was 20?
@JakeStine
January 5, 2025 at 5:42 pm
Denver’s play-by-play announcer actually calls the opposing team’s actions when they’re on offense. Spurs play-by-play announcer doesn’t even seem to be paying attention when Nuggets are on offense.

Jokic is a far more experienced in top levvel games compared to Wemby. Still wemby is already showing he’ll be there among the greats i. Its only a matter of time.
Jokic is the best player on the planet now. But I like him most because he is a good decent man on and off the court.

Extremely fun that these games have the best 20 year old vs the best 30 year old, with near 40-year-olds Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook still around as two of the few point guards in the league who still remember how to throw good post-entry passes.
