Stop hyping up Haliburton. Hope he gets well soon. But people acting like he was not the most inconsistent player in playoffs/finals. Only showing up in random moments. Only 17-5-8 in playoffs and worse at 14-4-6 in the finals including a 0 fg game 5. He never got really rid of being overrated.

Years ago, I remember an interview with Jalen Williams, where the interviewer alluded to the point that he was a young, wealthy, good-looking man — whose nightlife potential would be much better in LA, New York, or Atlanta. And JW acknowledged that was true — and nights in OKC were filled more with video games, than they are with $100 lap dances — but that was okay by him, because the guys on the team were focused on basketball. And last night at the desk with Scott Van Pelt, he circled back to the same point, without specifically mentioning the OKC nightclub scene: He said the guys on the team spend a LOT of time together, whether it’s playing cards or watching film. They go out to eat together, and talk about basketball — rather than staying up all night, ordering bottle service. I guess the point is one that should be “true,” of all young, talented, and ambitious Americans in their 20’s: That their focus is squarely on being the best they can be — and “maximizing their potential” — in whatever their chosen career is. And on “building the relationships,” that will help them achieve their goals. And tonight — Tyrese Halliburton’s tragic and heartbreaking injury notwithstanding — we got to see the final result, of what Mr. Williams communicated, in that old interview years ago. The OKC Thunder are the personification of the saying, “Ball is Life.” Congrats to the team, its owner, management, players, and staff…on a job well done. Tomorrow isn’t promised — as the previous Thunder team featuring the 3 future MVPs & Hall of Famers KD, James Harden, and Russell Westbook certainly proved — but this version of the Thunder sure looks to be “sitting pretty.” (And BTW…stop hating on those AT&T commercials; they’re hilarious if you don’t take them too seriously.)
