8:44 Yet people still think Harden would be a star back in the 90s or 00s. He is a great player but flops too much and relies too much on the free throw line, besides nowadays that would be a foul, here it wasn’t even called.

Man I love AI. 2000-01 Sixers were a one man team that STILL beat one of the most stacked Lakers teams of all time in game 1.

But, uh…we really pretending that wasn’t a travel at 0:18??? I count at least 3 steps, or maybe a hop step plus 2 more…

Iverson s biggest issue is that he s 50% point guard and 50% shooting guard. He can t play with a billups type point guard and can t play with a ray allen type shooting guard.

Everyone can talk about whether Jordan or LeBron or whoever had scrubs on their teams and whether that exemplifies or diminishes their game. And normally I think those arguments are pretty pointless. But Iverson, damn, now he had scrubs. Other than a few months with an aging Kukoc (who left mid-season), and another few months with elderly 40+ yr old veteran Mutumbo (acquired in the Kukoc trade, honestly they should have kept Kukoc) — there was not a single other noteworthy offensive player on that team.

Also, Iverson’s assist average was amazing considering no one else on his team besides Kukoc could be expected to hit wide-open jumpers. I watched most of the 2000 season as it happened, and Iverson would hit guys for wide-open jumpers 7 to 10 times a game, and 5 to 8 would end in bricks or airballs.

  63. Jake Stine

    May 17, 2020 at 9:41 am

Re-watching some of this footage reminds me that Iverson used to get hit with two travelling/carrying calls PER GAME, even though you can tell he’s working twice as hard as a Jordan or LeBron or Durant to stick to two-step layups and to avoid scooping the ball. Every game a ref would blow Iverson for a carry as he was non-chalantly walking up court, unguarded, because they thought he put a little too much hand *under* the ball.

The 76rs gamecallers would always be surprised, and usually talk about how Iverson hadn’t quite yet earned the “Jordan Rule” from the refs regarding travelling and carrying. Having never really watched Jordan play, I didn’t really know what they were talking about. But watching a lot of classic NBA highlights of 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s eras it’s become clear to me how unfair the refs are in calling games, and how unfair they were to Iverson that season, for example.

The more I watch of NBA on youtube, the more the refs make me angry with unfair and inconsistent calls, starting from about the late 80’s and early 90’s.
