‘I am happy’ – Magic Johnson on stepping down as Lakers’ president | The Jump

Published

on

Magic Johnson gives an exclusive 1-on-1 to ESPN’s Rachel Nichols just minutes after he announced that he was stepping down as president of basketball operations of the Los Angeles Lakers. He says he’s happy to be back to being himself and that he feels more free than he has before. He tells Rachel that he didn’t tell Jeanie Buss because he would be an emotional mess and that he didn’t want to cry in front of her. Magic says that he feels that the Lakers are in a good position and that if the right player comes, the Lakers will be in the Western Conference Finals next year. When Rachel also offers him a job, he says he’s happy to come onto The Jump as soon as he can.

“5% pleasure, 50% pain and 100% reason to remember the name.”- Magic Johnson, on his favorite song and why he quit the Lakers President of Basketball Operations position.

The Lakers didn’t want Magic as PoBO. They talked him into doing that. Anyway, hopefully this means a better future for the Lakers.

Magic got FORCED out. He didn’t know what the hell he was doing…this is like Lebron James saying he had nothing to do with a trade…no one is going to believe that. Magic didn’t need to tell Jeanie he was leaving, because she the one who told him to leave. Good ole Magic…he still got the laugh…he still got the smile…he still got the charm, but, maybe he shoulda wore some sunglasses, because the EYES can’t lie…you can see the PAIN and DISAPPOINTMENT in his eyes…he can no more convince us that he is leaving on his own…than Rachel Nichols can convince us that she believes a word he is saying…you can tell she does not believe a word he is saying, but, she’s been in the business long enough…she understands this is how he has to handle things.

Magic is a business man .. How do you resign by telling the media before you tell the organization your working for ..

Only thing that can make this more crazy is when the Lakers announce Lavar Ball as the new GM, he been right about everything so far except beating MJ one on one
