Have the Spurs gotten past losing Kawhi Leonard? | The Jump

Published

on

Rachel Nichols, Jackie MacMullan and Scottie Pippen head to “Crunch Time” on The Jump to discuss if rookies Jaxson Hayes and Matisse Thybulle should voice frustration about missing the Rising Stars Challenge, (1:49) if the San Antonio Spurs have gotten past losing Kawhi Leonard, (3:43) if they’d rather have Domantas Sabonis or Kristaps Porzingis and (4:58) the Boston Celtics being linked to trade talks for Houston Rockets center Clint Capela.

I’m a Spurs fan and when Scottie said some teams never recover, I was trembling

Kawhi betrayed the Spurs. Anything else that happened after is immaterial.

How many players have the spurs betrayed (traded)? Ask Danny Green and ask DeMar who will be next.

Spurs are always trying to improve with kawhi there or not.

The Spurs will be fine there’s a reason they have been one of the top sports franchises for decades. You can’t expect them to instantly recover from something like that

As long as we don’t draft or sign(unlikely) another superstar, we won’t get over Kawhi quickly.

Demar just not fit for this era and Aldridge not either

Jaxson Hayes and Thybulle have a real complaint. All star weekend is becoming a popularity contest. Zion got voted in before he even played a game.

I mean if they kept Kawhi, they would have extended their playoff / championship streak, instead the Spurs dominance has ended, the end of a 2 decade era. Spurs fans probably blame Kawhi for the downfall of their dynasty

Spurs made the playoffs twice without Kawhi in a stacked western conference so I don’t think they have fallen as hard as people are saying. Kawhi leaving did eliminate them as legitimate contenders but they are still a threatening team for anyone in the playoffs. This season has just been terrible but not because Kawhi left. The spurs lack size, they have quite a few young players and new players on the roster, shooting has been inconsistent, and we lost some of our veteran assistant coaches. Most organizations would start rebuilding in this situation but not the spurs. I think that says a lot about their system and the drive the whole organization has to stay competitive.

Also, I’m not sure why so many people think derozen is not a good fit for the spurs. He’s playing his most efficient basketball of his career and has been a big part of the spurs offense. He should have been an all star this year. Murray and White have been the most disappointing this year, in my opinion.
