Giannis Antetokounmpo is the overwhelming NBA MVP favorite, according to an ESPN report | The Jump

Published

on

Rachel Nichols, Brian Windhorst and Kendrick Perkins react to a report from ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, in which a poll of NBA MVP voters shows Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is the favorite to repeat as the winner of the award ahead of Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Houston Rockets guard James Harden. They then (3:21) discuss the Bucks’ reaction to Giannis being stepped over by Detroit Pistons forward Blake Griffin.

Honestly, Giannis is going to need to hit those 3s & the Bucks will need to finish with more wins this season than they had last year for him to retain the MVP. Because that boy Luka is coming. When Luka finishes the year with 31.4 ppg 10.2 rpg and 10.3 apg, and the Mavs finish 4th in the West, when everyone knows they’d miss the playoffs badly without Luka, it’s gonna be hard not to give the MVP to Luka at that point.

Giannis was the mvp last season and is averaging better numbers across the board this season. Only way heโ€™s not mvp is if espn keeps forcing Lebron down their throats.

NO CAP LEBRON AND THE LAKERS BALLIN BUT GIANNIS OUT THERE LOOKIN LIKE A 2 TIMER AND HIS TEAM BALLING TOO

Brian brings up a good point about voter fatigue and I m curious why it’s not happening with Giannis. James Harden won MVP one year and lost in the playoffs, and because he didn’t go out guns blazing he has never won again. Avg 36ppg last year and is avg more this year and is in 4th place

The way that Kawhi beat him last year does not sit well with me. Kawhi looked better and guarded him and beat him. LeBron has a better narrative this season of his revenge season and the Lakers have the same record as Milwaukee on a new team. Giannis has chemistry and has been in a consistent environment so we have to give a healthy, rested LeBron James credit for not only leading the league in assists and being a great leader, but for also making that defense better by being a stud defender once again

Finally, a lot is made of the Lakers schedule but the Bucks have only beat 1 team during their 13 game win streak which is a winning team and that was Utah who has been playing bad lately and got beat by a few teams. The West is tougher than the East and so even if the Lakers do have wins against non playoff teams, the Western teams are tougher than some of these weak teams like Chicago etc

Why say bucks have top 5 defense when they are statistically the best defense in the league? Also why say top 10 offense when they have the 2nd best offense in the league (statistically)?

Why is Lebron in the conversation. Any star player given a team full of stars and laying low star players gathered in a team like in avengers will play better. Heck put Al Horford in Lebron’s position and he’d play good as well.

Giannis was a nice guy brought up properly by his parents. Griffin is a bitter washed-up has-been compared to Giannis hahaha. He’s just bitter that he’s no longer that disrespecting dunker before. These morons can step over Giannis only because Giannis ALLOWS them to. If Giannis choses to fight instead of playing basketball… theyd be crawling in the hardwood floor faster than conner in his last fight with Khabib.
