In previous years, all these international players kept saying that international basketball is harder than the NBA, yet during this tournament a bunch of them went off & put up crazy stats. I understand the star players like Giannis, Luka, etc., going off, but some other players that went off are just like role-players in the NBA. For example Dennis Schroder is a solid player in the NBA, but he’s not consistently putting up big numbers in the NBA like he did in this EuroBasket tournament.

In the case of Dennis its easy to explain. For his style of basketball, he needs the ball in his hands and general a lot of touches to build a rhythm in his game. In the NBA he isnt good enough, to be the primary ballhandler for a playoff-team. So a role as a sixth man, where he have the ball (in limited time) a lot suits him the best, as we saw last year in Detroit or at OKC a few years ago. That wasnt the case with the Warriors with their playing style + next to Steph, so he didnt perform well. We saw what he can deliver in the NBA, when he had his “own team”, in the 16-17 season with the hawks, where he averaged 25/8 in the first round series against the wizards.

And I think they just said, that scoring with fiba rules (3 second rule for example) is more difficult. The talent drop of between the NBA and this eurobasket is gigantic.

NBA is all about politics is why. They have their earmarked stars that must touch the ball, and you are forced into a roleplayer. Schroder can be a good starting guard for a team.

@@zombievikinggaming4258 We’re talking about being a star, not just a “good starting player.” He led his team to the chip & won MVP of the tournament, but he wouldn’t be able to do anything close to that in the NBA if given the chance. That is my point. These international players keep saying international ball is harder than the NBA, yet they’re doing things in these tourneys that that they would never be capable of doing in the NBA.

I don’t think they were talking about EuroBasket, the Olympics or the World Cup. In those tournaments it is way easier to score than in the Euroleague or the ACB (which they had in mind when comparing the NBA to European basketball).

If you’ve seen Dennis play for Brooklyn or during his OKC days, you’d know he’s easily All Star caliber (on a bad team, think Kemba on the Hornets or Dlo on the nets). The problem is he needs the ball in his hands alot and what team is going to invest in such a high usage point guard at 32 years old who isn’t a #1 on a championship team in the NBA. Dennis could be the guy on an 8th seed team, but who’s investing in that?
