Can’t pretend to want to win & expect to win. When your best player simply won’t commit, physically and/or mentally to being the best defender he can b, u will not win a title.
Add to that terrible body language & not being held accountable by the coaching staff & u get these results.
The talent is astonishing, obviously, but he needs to grow up & act like a fully-committed pro. Steph is ELEVEN years older & plays much harder on D. Same with Giannis & Jokic.
Very similar play in Dallas’ previous game, vs. Warriors: LD was “guarding” Moses Moody, who simply cut baseline & had an uncontested dunk. Doncic didn’t even move!????????

Playing defense increases your chance of getting into foul trouble or getting injured, and for someone as good at offense as Luke is, it won’t make him any more money than he’ll already be getting when he’s due for a new contract. He’s just playing it smart.
Plus it’s gotta be tiring lugging around all that extra weight up and down the court for 38 mins a night.
