Rachel Nichols, Ramona Shelburne and Chiney Ogwumike react to the NCAA voting to allow athletes to profit off their name, image or likeness, after facing pressure following California passing the “Fair Pay to Play Act,” and other states following suit. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who was a vocal supporter of the change, tweeted a reaction to the news.

Isn’t this mostly a symbolic gesture? The committee more or less recommended more committees to have a think about it.

The ncaa shouldn’t pay college athletes that’s dumb what they should do is allow them to get paid for their likeness it is wrong of the ncaa to block them from making money of their likeness period

This isn’t the NCAA caving; this is them trying to control the process.

LeBron has no skin in the game. I find it insulting that everyone seems to forget the O’Bannon twins and their lawsuit against NCAA over this very issue. As basketball players, who attended UCLA (a University of California school) Ed and Charles O’Bannon should’ve been included in the legislative process and should’ve been invited to participate in Lebron’s show, during the episode that had Gov Newsome signing the bill. LeBron (who never went to college and doesn’t seem to appreciate the need for College athletics) needs to understand that his tweets mean absolutely nothing because he never attended college and his sons will probably never attend college.

This is disgusting shame on greedy humans. This screams trouble. Just think now every athlete will act like Jameis Winston only 10 times worse. College sports is the a place for education not profits. Now the richest college can buy the best athletes. It’s gonna look like the NBA, only two good teams and the rest will be garbage. BAD Decision.

So because you can run jump shoot a ball or score a touch down you deserve to get paid huh?
I believe so after all the money made by athletes that they can’t have any parts of, but have to live hand to mouth on college campuses.
But what of the kids whomake a real difference in the world. Like scientific discoveries, breakthroughs, teachers, etc etc we just leave them with the debt!

Who cares about LeBeijing off the court anymore. He lost all his credibility! That being said, it’s indeed a great day for college athletes.

They didn’t have a choice, it was pay the students, or watch every student athlete move to California to be paid.

Very concerning how bad the NCAA didnt want them to get paid. They literally paid money to fight the fact of them getting paid. Not to mention, how many regulations and requirements theres going to be for players to actually get paid. Nonetheless, its a good first step for collegiate athlete, and hopefully it improves their quality of life, because not all players get to to the NBA, or overseas and make a decent living.
