If Ben Simmons gets used like early Rajon Rondo, he doesn’t need to shoot – Perk | First Take

Stephen A. Smith, Kendrick Perkins and Max Kellerman debate whether Ben Simmons needs to shoot better for the Philadelphia 76ers to be contenders, with Perk claiming new coach Doc Rivers can use Simmons like he did Rajon Rondo on the Boston Celtics. #NBA #Sports #FirstTake More on ESPN.com:

The difference is, Rondo was your 4th best player on the team. Simmons is #1 or #2 depending on how he is used. You cant conpare that to the boston’s championship year perkins. 😂😂

I took it as you can win with a non shooter PG it’s been proven. Whether rondo was 4th best or 1st best it doesn’t matter. He still played 30 mpg and he finished games and back then in 08 when defenses sagged he didn’t even look at the rim and they still won because of the team around him. Now he needs to shoot to make it easier but if he’s not attempting shots he just needs a really good team around him. If I swapped out draymond for Simmons 2015-2019 they’d still win 3 chips. Neither can shoot but draymonds non shooting never cost them a chip cause the team was too good.

If you build around Embiid, you trade Ben Simmons and if build around Ben Simmons you trade Embiid. It is the safest way of going about your roster, you need perimeter shooting for surrounding the guy in the post, whoever it is. Maybe trading Simmons for Wall+1st round pick sounds like a good trade for both teams.

Rondo was never afraid to take a jump shot though

Ben Simmons is 6’10 with no jump-shot but can really do everything else at a young age. This means he is a great passer, an elite defender, can rebound, can score in the paint. Put him at center for the Rockets that had CP3 and see how much damage he can do.

You casual fans just watch a few highlights and listen to ESPN for knowledge.

Perk is right, he doesn’t need a jumpshot but he does need to improve his free throws and polish his post moves. Maybe add more muscle.

Every has to shoot the 3 ball in 2020. It’s that or you get destroyed by zones.

This is an idiotic take from Perk, of course rondo got the opportunity to be a ball distributer when he was a Celtic, because the big 3 was there. Rondo was never a focus on defense. Ben Simmons is a top 2 player on his team, why would he get open looks like rondo did??

Rondo definitely made more 3s in the playoffs than Simmons, so did Dwight Howard by the way.

Simply wrong. During rondo’s early years, NBA is played deferently. That version of rondo wont work now.
