Şengün is a magnificent player with a great future ahead. His biggest issue though is clearly his mentality and behavior. Winning against Hellas, then posting repeatedly against Greeks mentioning Kemal and being proud of killing and drowning tens of thousands of them, then posting again, trying to reduce Giannis as a player. “Selling” and “promoting” ethnicity always looks bad, especially for players that shine in court and promote peace through the sport, and many young people want to follow their example. Turkey’s head coach and two of their players, play for Panathinaikos and they have written history already there, bringing the two nations closer. Şengün’s actions point to the opposite direction of these efforts. Additionally, it was really bad that after the defeat from Germany he didn’t want to even greet any of the winners. He needs to learn respect. Respecting your opponent and what they have achieved. If it was not for Shroder to greet him in the announcement of the top 5 players, he wouldn’t even greet him. Shroder has had behavioral issues in the past, but he seems a lot more mature now, and he managed to secure the game when everything looked really bad for the Germans. Overall, congrats to Germany, amazing win and congrats to Turkey for an amazing overall tournament performance. Şengün’s “image” outside the court was the only incident which raised concerns, other than that, Turkey as a basketball team has a great future ahead, with lots of young and promising players.

He did not say any of those things in his post. That’s a lie. You could claim he meant those things but nah. That theory falls apart really quickly too. When we refer to that time and that victory against the Greek, we say “we poured the Greek army into Aegen sea”. It does not refer to any of your people drowning. Do not say things like the Turks killed thousands like it was a one sided thing. The Greek tried to invade Türkiye and they got bounced out. We beat you in war. We fought and you lost. Do not make it sound like you were innocent and were just sitting there. This was attempt to invade Türkiye. We know what you did to innocents in Kıbrıs, too. Now thats killing thousand, but you do not want none of that smoke, don’t you? Sengun did not disrespect Giannis also. He said weakest part of his game was passing out of post when doubled and it was. It worked. He got locked up with a lower percentage and 5 TOs with only 12 points. He said time and again he was on of the best in the world. But Giannis knows he is what he is bacause of his physical gifts. He gets mad easily when people talk about his skill level like his shooting because he can’t shoot. Also, Sengun congratulated the Germans. Dennis even consoled him at the end. So none of what you said in your comment is true. You lost in the war. You lost in the semis. Sengun did not disrespect Giannis and he congratulated the Germans. If that gets you mad as well, that’s on you. Have fun with it.

@@TheEditorify You clearly misread his comments and the so-called lyrics of the song he posted. Basketball is a sport and should be treated like that. I did not see any comments from Greek players during the past when a Greek team would beat a Turkish one, advertising the Greek rebellion for example in the 1800s. Why would that be normal? I also oppose when Greek fans for example say bad things for Turkey when Panathinaikos has away games. My point is that this is a sport and should be treated and promoted like that. And yes of course, you won that war and we won the 1800s war, and if you go way back its the same story over and over again. My point is that players should NOT promote these events, period. Also, feel free to check Sengun’s reactions in both games. If you find them normal, then we have nothing to discuss here. Respect to the rest of the players and the whole Turkish team, but Sengun needs to stop promoting ethnicity and start promoting the sport and fair play instead.

That means that I did not misread. And most people clearly got what was in these words. If you still think that there was nothing wrong, this is your issue, not mine. My message is clear. A pro player should not promote ethnicity by insulting nations. They should stick to the sport. As simple as that. In fact, organizations such as fiba should penaltize heavily such behaviors. And I say that for Giannis as well, because no one should take the bait and reply to such comments. Period.

Bro, get your facts straight. Turkey is not just “Middle Asia.” Part of the land is in Asia, part is in Europe – that’s why we’re in EuroBasket and EuroLeague. Same way Israel plays in Europe, Australia is in Eurovision, it’s not rocket science.
