   thats a good idea. but it would be embarassing for the league. whats stopping celebrities from being in the 3pt contest or the skills challenge then? you could do that in the all star game as well. you dont fix the nba slam dunk contest by having non-nba players in the dunk contest.

   Back in the day, you were not seeing spectacular dunks on a nightly basis, especially if you wasn’t a star because your games were only on locally. In this era, you can see all kinds of incredible dunks done by Willard or Rodney from down the street on YT, IG and tictok by the minute! The dunk market is over saturated now so the mystique to get in the dunk contest like back in the day is gone.

    Why is everyone pretending like this is a new unique idea. Every other year there are slam dunk competitions like this, many of which are televised with nba judges and no one cares and they arent that interesting. Im sure people will be interested for a year or 2 but it will ultimately lead to the death of the contest as players definitely will never want to compete again and wont turn out to even watch after a few years even if its good at first.

    Isaiah thomas is a hater. He said, Micheal Jordan never went through Bird, Magic, and these greats, but the bad boys pistons beat those team. The contradiction here is, being that the isaiah piston team beat all those great and historical teams then if micheal jordan beat his pistons in a convincing manner, then Micheal jordan still had the toughest road to the finals.

    How about you first take a poll and ask present n former NBA players why they didn’t participate in the slam dunk contest first. Let’s see if they have common answers. Then you can proceed with a precise solution. Otherwise, nobody will get anywhere because you don’t know why the dunk contest stinks.

    It would be huge for a year or 2 because for 2 years we will see all the impossible dunks then after a year or 2 no more to be watch because we’ve seen it all.

    Nobody wants to watch nobodies dunking, so Stephen A.’s answer is to get guys who are even less familiar to the public than the scrubs and benchwarmers they get to do the contest now.

    The issue is, that dunk contests only matter if stars are doing it.

    Just scrap the contest.

    Some of the guys “off the streets” ARE the best basketball players and dunkers in the world! Some just have not been given the opportunity!
