4 years ago today, basketball fans started lining up outside the Drew League at 6 in the morning with the hopes of getting into the 1:45 PM game and seeing LeBron’s first game at the Drew since the 2011 NBA Lockout. Despite the gym’s 1,300-person capacity, around 2,500 fans witnessed LeBron put up 42 points and 16 rebounds alongside another mixtape legend, DeMar DeRozan, who had 30 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
Draymond Green on the game: “Let’s talk about what LeBron James’ appearance did for these young African American kids that were there. For us, growing up in the neighborhood, you think LeBron Jameses are a surreal thing because there’s no way to touch LeBron. You just see him on a basketball court or a TV screen. There were so many kids there that could say, ‘Wow, I got that close to LeBron James.”

I remember watching this. They’re not showing you the other side of the ball where this relatively unknown guy guarding LeBron, Dion Wright dropped 20 on him head up. The gym went just as crazy about that.
