I mean I’d say we better than last year defensively as we upgraded to Kessler, got length and defensive wings like Williams, Carr, Thybulle and grimes and sexton off bench

That’s exactly why this season is so interesting 😂 Luka’s talent has never been the question the real question is whether THIS Lakers roster finally has the right pieces around him. Luka + Reaves could be must-watch basketball. ⚡🏀 🏀
I re-watched some of the games from last Feb and March over this past weekend.
Some things I noted:
1. Lebron is really good. But the Lakers with Luka and AR looked more in sync.
2. JJ’s focus was clearly not defense. Kennard got a LOT of minutes at the 3.
3. Laravia had a big impact off the bench with his energy, movement, and offensive rebounding. His plus-minus must have been really good.
4. The Lakers won a lot of games with Ayton a no-show. He often sat second halves.
5. AR is better than I thought. He can get into the paint at will.
6. Vando isn’t that bad. He adds value
7. Marcus Smart got more wide-open looks than any player I’ve ever seen. I think opposing teams wanted him to shoot
8. The Lakers were able to be good defensively with inferior personnel because of effort and great defensive schemes.
JJ had good defensive schemes. He just didn’t have great defensive personnel. Let’s see how it looks now that he essentially got multiple solid defenders to replace Rui, Ayton, and LeBron who were damn near liabilities on that end
On 2, doesn’t matter defensively. Luka is a PG on offense, but not on defense. Dallas ran Josh Green at the 3 for the same reason. Slotting slides down. You’ll see the same thing this season with Grimes at the 3, but guarding 1s or 2s.
