Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey delivered an all-time Game 7 performance on May 2, 2026.

Embiid finished with 34 PTS, 12 REB, while Maxey added 30 PTS, 11 REB, as the duo made NBA history.

They are just the 3rd duo EVER to each record 30+ PTS and 10+ REB in a Game 7, joining:

Kobe Bryant & Shaquille O’Neal (2002)
Dolph Schayes & George Yardley (1959)

Even more impressive—they’re the ONLY duo of the three where BOTH players also recorded 5+ AST.

A historic Game 7 showing from Philadelphia’s stars.

Embiid only played 4 games in this series off a surgery playing at 60% and still torched Celtics

No Big man by celtics. They miss a lot to Al Horford and Kornet.

@AdriNet-c8wEmbiid had never been healthy. Embiid dropped 70 on Wemby and 51 on Gobert. No one is stopping healthy Embiid. We saw him averaging 35 on one leg in the Playoffs. Now he’s torching the C’s being 60% and limping on the court

@MrParisLondonknow, I know—I’m not discrediting Embiid’s series, but come on, it’s easier to score against Queta, Garza, or other guys than against the players I mentioned, even if he’d still drop 30 on them. It’s pretty clear—today was one of the easiest days Embiid has had scoring without much difficulty.

@AdriNet-c8wEasy how when you are coming off an injury, dealing with an oblique pain, limping in the 4th, dropping 34 on the C’s?

@MrParisLondonYeah, but Embiid has had plenty of time to work on team chemistry. It’s true he had the appendix injury, but when he came back he was very dominant against the players around him. And that’s very impressive (I think I said that before), but if the matchup was against Garza and Queta, and even sometimes against Jaylen Brown, what do you want me to say?
Is what I’m saying wrong? Relax, man, don’t take it the wrong way. I’m not attacking Embiid, but it’s obvious what’s been happening. Is it possible that against a great rim protector he could still average 36 points per game? Yeah, it’s possible, but he’d probably have a tougher time scoring.
Don’t get offended—it’s just basketball. Nobody’s dying over this.
And in basketball, you don’t go looking for the toughest matchups—you look for the easier ones too. That’s what it’s all about.

I hate the Celtics fans for saying Boston woulda won BS because Embiid was gone for 3 games that excuse doesn’t work guys.

Embid was tired of loosing over and over to the sixers finally waking up through that injury

Sixers take down their nemesis — in other words, Embiid finally beats the team that’s had him on a leash the past few years. An outstanding performance from him, but for me the decisive player was Maxey. They were up 18 and suddenly the Celtics came very close to coming back. Playing at TD Garden is a nightmare.
    Keys to the game:

There was no answer for Embiid. He did whatever he wanted. Even when they sent double teams, he got rid of the ball and created open looks for Sixers players.

Maxey, the guy who dictates everything. Great decision-making — he consistently created advantages against Hauser and Queta. That’s the point: he wasn’t going to hunt Brown or White, you always go after the weakest defender. Also worth highlighting his clutch performance — I think he was the only player on the floor who still had gas left. Everyone else looked exhausted.

The Sixers’ bench was much better and really stepped up. On the Celtics’ side, I missed Pritchard — he was great in Game 4, and today his contribution was needed. Hugo González is a solid player, but he needs to improve his three-point shooting.

Boston’s offense was very predictable, and at times it completely stalled. I didn’t understand why, against the drop coverage, Brown didn’t attack Embiid to at least try to draw fouls. Also, way too many threes — they should have diversified the offense more.

Mazzulla — I get that Vucevic wasn’t playing well, but he was still an option, especially to create spacing and force Embiid to step out and contest shots. That really stood out to me.

VJ Edgecombe — tremendous personality. Without those threes, Philly probably doesn’t win. And Paul George — the suspension seems to have done him good; he looks like a different player.

    End of analysis:

Is a first-round elimination against the Sixers a failure? For me, no. At the start of the season, everyone (myself included) thought this was a team that would tank. But with Brown playing at an elite level in the regular season, they managed to secure the second seed, which made us think they were contenders. Still, for Boston to win, they need to hit at least 16 threes — and at a good percentage. If they don’t, they lose.

A lot of credit to the Sixers as well, who managed to hold on through the first three games without their star player. This is a historic win, especially since they pulled off something nobody had done before — beating Boston after being down 1–3.
I think the Knicks will win in the second round, but as we say in Spain: “we’re ready to go down swinging.” And the Sixers are in that position — the pressure is on the Knicks, not Philly.
