Yeah hate to say it but when I see some of maddux’s old videos it’s straight up not baseball. Not only just abs, umps today are just better because they get repercussions if their stats are below a certain threshold.
Not necessarily. You probably would have called that a strike too if you were in his position. That pitch had very late break and the catcher framed it very well.
@trueh8 Not necessarily. A strike zone is a general area between the chest and knees. The strike zone abs uses doesn’t cover all scenarios. It doesn’t adjust for when batters move up or back in the box. If they crouch more in their stance or stand taller, etc. Abs is a general estimate. General estimates can be wrong.
Clearly a ball according to ABS, however, let’s keep in mind that ABS is calculated from the middle of the plate and not at the true actual start of the strike zone. This would’ve been a much closer call if the ABS system used the entire plate and not a middle of the plate 2D square.

Just think about how many games in baseball history were blown by bad calls. How many championships were not even supposed to happen

I love baseball and the umps have always been a big part of the game but honestly they’re really bad and we don’t need them anymore

It was a full count. Of course he didn’t wait. He walked towards both first base and the dugout waiting for the result.
