DP is so NBA ready, itâs a dream come true. His composure at the PG position is a God-sent for the Jazz who has been struggling with it for decades. His patience and coolness with the ball is so smooth. His confidence at every level of the game will be a blessing for the Jazz for a very long time. His end-game abilities to score critical points when the team needs to close games out is amazing. He doesnât think about it, he just scores as if itâs the most natural thing in the world. I only saw a couple of games of DP during the last NCAA season. The one I was most impressed with was the matchup with #1 and undefeated Arizona vs #8 Kansas. I saw a young man monster on the court that night and Arizona didnât have an answer for and couldnât stop DP. I said then that he was a monster. Little did I know he was going to be on my Jazz team this soon. I think everything worked out for the best for the Jazz in the draft. DP was the true #1 pick, but because of his weird unavailability for Kansas. He was passed and AJ took the #1 spot and let DP land right in the laps of the Jazz. He was my pick in the draft simply because the Jazz was having such great successes in the recent drafts with Cody, Key, and Ace. All they needed was a stable and cool handler at the PG position and that young core could be something special in the coming seasons.
I am elated and so excited right now to have this young man as a member of the Utah Jazz. The team that I have been a fan of ever since they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah from New Orleans, Luisiana back in 1978. Throughout the years as a Jazz fan, weâve been the most loyal fans in the NBA. Weâve had Adran Dantly, Green, Stockton, Malone, Williams, Boozer, Kirilinko, Mitchell, Gobert, and now DP, Ace, Cody, and Key. As a twelve year old kid who loved basketball in the late 70s. The jazz came to SLC and it brought us kids a place to go and see the best players of that era in Dr. J, Magic, Bird, Gervin, and the rest of them. It was the Jazz that allowed us to see and shake hands with the gameâs best players of the time. Needless to say, that kind of experience put the Jazz in your heart and no other team can replace that. We had fun watching the celtics, lakers, bulls and the rest of the great teams and dynasties, but it was the Jazz that was best team in our hearts, and still is to this very day.
I am grateful for the Utah Jazz owership and front office staffs. This team is a result of their hard work and personal beliefs. I also love the fact that Smith (the owner of the Jazz) is himself a Jazz fan since growing up in Utah. Danny Ainge is the brain of this operation, his son is also great at the head of the operation.
