Rachel Nichols sits down with Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge to talk about Kyrie Irving’s exit, his struggles building the roster in 2018-19 and having too many players on a similar level (Kyrie, Gordon Hayward, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Al Horford, Terry Rozier), attracting Kemba Walker in 2019 NBA free agency, being absent big men with the departures of Horford and Aron Baynes, his knack for making impressive trades, Hayward’s broken hand injury, his own health, and Walker’s impact on the team (the interview was recorded prior to Walker’s neck injury).

Kemba is better than Kyrie for the intangibles that create a TEAM and not just individual stats.

Danny should see a doctor. He looks sick or otherwise unhealthy in this video. I hope he gets some sleep.

Danny is a mastermind; he could’ve started some controversy. Instead, he takes responsibility and squashes any beef.

People forgot Kyrie Got in front of the crowd and said he would resign before the season started

That was dumb. I was always taught to never make promises I can’t keep. Just keep ya mouth shut otherwise and do your job well

Rachel really does a great job and you know she has respect because she tells people in their face the stuff she says on air about them.

Danny Ainge was a great player, a better coach, and one of the best GMS ever.

I appreciate D.A humility for admitting his fault of putting unfitting pieces around Kyrie.

This is an example of being a leader, and a strong man. He is taking the blame for everything, not just what he had control over. Irving was a mistake, and his team mates are clearly happy he left.

Kyrie should have been shipped out after he didn’t show up on the sideline for a playoff elimination game. So yeah he screwed up last year.

The problem is that they keep trying to make Gordon the man but clearly he is not, and all the other players know it

Kyrie is the guy your daughter wants to marry
*Kemba is the guy you know your daughter should marry
(This is about on the court analysis not a character attack)

It is still wrong Ainge. The team still has no rim protection. They have no answer for Giannis and Embiid. Stop drafting undersized “bigs” for once and add rim protection to the team.

What happened to the feisty Danny Ainge I grew up with?
Great basketball mind…in my opinion.

Since some of you are young, let me remind you all of something: Danny Ainge is one of the best college athletes EVER.
When Ainge graduated from BYU he was an all American in football, basketball, AND baseball. He was actually drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays and played baseball for a few games.
Then the Boston Celtics offered him a contract, so he quit MLB to play in the NBA. Then he became a one time all star and 2 time world champ. Then he became part of the Celtics front office and guided the Celtics to another title in 2008! Ainge is a fucking WINNER…
