Rachel Nichols, Brian Windhorst and Kendrick Perkins react to the Houston Rockets trading Clint Capela and getting Robert Covington in return, and debate whether their extreme version of small ball — led by James Harden and Russell Westbrook, with P.J. Tucker playing a lot at center — will work in the 2020 NBA playoffs.

I celebrate this move. Once for all, We have an opportunity to shut up all the swm/geeks/nerds/sjw who want to socially engineer the nba with this 3pts over everything propaganda. The warriors never did it that way and this narrative will only stick around with a championship to validate it. When it fails, the NBA can finally return to actual basketball, actual talent and the 1 dimensional chuckers/gunners can go back to their proper positions.

He’s surrounding Harden and Russ with nothing but shooters so they bring the big men out and open the floor for both of them.

If Harden could shoot like Curry and make 45% of his 3’s rather than 33% this would probably actually work but even the Warriors “small ball” still had a 7ft demigod named Kevin Durant and DOPY Draymond on defense.

I respect the Rockets for trying this out. They weren’t going to win with Capela, even though he’s a beast. People are saying what are they going to do when they play against big centers, but what are other teams going to do about 5 3 point shooters down the stretch? We’ll find out next time on….

Blame Adam Silver and the rules committee he heads. Here is the NBA under Silver. Silver has made the NBA all about offense. From “protect the shooter” to directing refs to call anything that looks like a foul for “offensive” heroes. SO the Rockets is right in regards to not playing defense. Whether it a team of little guys or a team of 8ft giants, neither one can win if they are sitting on the bench with foul trouble. The problem with the rockets plan is that the good teams have back-ups that can give the rockets a run for their money (Clippers, Lakers). Other teams like Denver, Utah, and the Bucks don’t play perimeter defense, so James dribble, dribble dribbbbbbble- shoot free throw game will not work as seen in his low scoring games.
What they should have done was keep their big men and add Drummund from the Pistons to the roster. Pay the Luxury tax for a two year contract and go for the Chip NOW! Ohh well I am not the GM so I guess we will see if this (small) three ball thing work next year when the Warriors get their Marksmen pieces back on the floor (minus KD but add Russel).
In closing teams have to be well rounded after this year, you cant be a specialist team. You can be a team of specialists, but not a team where everyone has the same specialty. SORRY ROCKET FANS…

You see, this might work if you had players like Steph Curry and Klay and Draymond. So, yeah Houston isn’t going to win with that move.

“Capela had history of disappearing in playoffs” said Perkins. Did he not watch Capela shut down KAT and Gobert 2 years ago? He’s only “disappeared” against the Warriors.
