Rachel Nichols, Dave McMenamin and Richard Jefferson react to the LA Clippers doing load management for Kawhi Leonard in their game vs. the Utah Jazz, what it means for the future of the NBA, and whether the league needs to shorten its schedule.

I absolutely want a shorter schedule. Shorten it by getting rid of conferences, and expanding the league. Step 1 get rid of conferences. Every team plays every other team 2 times a season (1 road 1 home). Step 2. add some games back by expanding the league to Seattle and a few other cities (San Diego, Montreal, Pittsburgh maybe). This way they can put an end to the ridiculous road trip schedules and the playoffs are the 16 best teams in the league. It levels the playing field across the entire league.

Such babies players are now of days. Hopefully these load managements cost the clippers not to go anywhere.

Look, I’d rather the NBA playoffs be more entertaining with all the stars and stuff than have them all injured before hand. I also think that it’s kinda cool too see teams go out there with their star resting and still get it done. If the Clippers wanna load manage Kawhi, that’s fine:

the only way i think having 82 games is sustanable is making them count, meaning they would have to be compasted to win more, for me , they should awarded the nº1 seed of the conferences the regular season title , but that would not be enough so they would get direct acess to the conference finals, but then they would have over 1 month without playing so they should play the nº1 seed in the west against the nº1 seed in east, so they dont get rusty, and it would be a great season and maybe a nba finals preview.

I’m OK with load management, yes I want to see kawhi play every game but at the end of the day I wanna see a competitive, injuriless playoff. That’s the price I’m willing to pay by not seing top players play every game. 82 games is alot, so allow players to sit when tired so we can see great playoff series

Playoffs is the biggest stage but I still believe in regular season dominance

If you sore lean on your teammates a little more in certain games you got Lou he can carry the offensive load.

Some players just don’t have the same luxury as kawhi to sit out and still make the playoffs.

Doc Rivers a momentum breaker. The season just started and he’s resting players already!? Don’t like it, KL not the kind of player needing rest. KL still fresh even after last season. He was out so long during injury time his legs are very fresh…

I don’t think its a millennial thing, we’ve seen so many big stars get injured, its in the best interest of the NBA to protect the players by keeping them out of meaningless games if the franchises think its in their best interest to do so. I want to see Kawhi in May and June when it matters most.

Though I do agree there shouldn’t be a shortened schedule though, for the sake of history. Kareem and Wilt will never be touched if they shorten the season.

should be 70 games & 1 day of rest between games!!!
Keep these guys healthy & stop over working them just for a few extra bucks!!!
Teams & the nba will LOSE $$$ when their star players keep getting Hurt….
They have to minimize the risk & change w/ the times!!!
