Some of these guys are legit tough shot makers, but occasionally and more than often you will see blatant carries in order to freeze the defender and blow by.

The new generation of basketball players think all these extra steps and carries are legal when they are actually not. So like you just mentioned, it makes it hard to watch, because highlights are what drives revenue and keeping the game as it was originally intended is out the window. A good referee will call it, decent leagues still call it. Here they won’t because the highlight is more important than playing the game the right way. Some.love the game others like the highlights.

That wouldn’t have been called a carry when I was playing 25 years ago.
I agree that a lot of things that would have been called back in the 90’s & early 2000’s are legal now even in the NBA, but this was not a carry by any standard…FYI I am currently a H.S. coach and referee.
It’s hard to defend someone who is allowed to carry the rock. You know as a defender you close out as soon as that hand goes under the ball, as you know he has to shoot at that point. But they use it to freeze you and blow by you. These guys are really talented, but once they can get away with carries they are almost impossible to guard. Not all but many of these 1v1 games have a lot of carrying involved. Not being argumentative just pointing out what we all see. I know that technically both players can do that, but that is only fair in a real game, not in a make it take it scenario. I would just rather have the referee make the right calls and not just be a spectator.
