The 2001 NBA All-Star Game was the game that made me an Iverson fan, nostalgic. . .
The 2001 All-Star Game was a blast! Itβs the best Iβve ever seen!
Eastβs final lineup, Iverson, Marbury, McGrady, Carter, and Mutombo, was a Death Small lineup that seriously aimed for a reversal by leaving all the rebounding to Mutombo and bringing it to a fast development!
I donβt dislike the recent all-stars that emphasize entertainment, but sometimes I want to see this kind of all-star that seriously competes as a game. I wonder if Iverson, Kobe, or a superstar with a hot competitive spirit is needed.
It was, but the main reason was that backboards were easily breakable, and at the time NBA was so lacking of money that repair costs were charged to the players themselves, and since the average salary was like 5000$/year, they didnβt want to take the risk just for fun.
I think doing the 4th quarter thing where you need to get to a certain score for the entire game would force the players to play at least some defense. But it will never be what it used to regardless since rivalries arenβt the same.

Itβs kinda crazy that the All Star game MVPs from 2021 and 2022 would go on to win the championship and Finals MVP that year. Iβm wondering if the All Star game is trying to tell us something.

You can make the all star exciting again by making it a game with a meaning. Probably affect the home court advantage of the playoffs or something.
