Suns gotta trade this dude. Ayton flat out quit during game 2. Monty called him out and instead of meeting the moment Ayton gave up. Ayton’s had three seasons to work on his offensive game and has done nothing in his off-seasons to get better. He refuses to post-up, back down defenders, use any kind of moves to get closer to the basket, and won’t absorb contact and get to the foul line. He’s sluggish setting up even a simple pick and roll. He never sets hard screens and has terrible hands and drops passes constantly. His foot work is lousy, his motor is sluggish, and the Bucks exploited him from game 3 onward. He is not a good rim protector. He doesn’t contest shots regularly. Defenders just step around him and score with ease. He also doesn’t help his teammates out when their defenders get to the rim. This cat seems content with taking the easy way out when it suits him. Don’t forget he got suspended for diuretics once already. His work ethic and attitude are questionable. Suns should trade him this summer and get a younger PG or another 2 guard on the bench who can create his own shot. Suns need to get a center who actually protects the paint so they can get out in transition more.
Monty made a mistake going with single coverage on Giannis and now that Middleton and Jrue are champs…that ship has sailed…the wall will no longer be a viable strategy.
The he’s still very young and he was left by himself against Giannis who is easily a top 3 player, but really also the only player in the league who is both elite in defense and offense. I’d argue AD is up there but AD doesn’t have the speed or strength Giannis has.
The series loss really came down to Booker and Paul having those critical turnovers at the end of Games 4 and 5. You win either one of those games and the series is pretty much a lock for the Suns to win, but instead, you let the Bucks even it up, then you go down 2-3 with the Bucks going home with all the momentum.
